JV Hoops: Dons Can’t Quite Catch Mats

Acalanes had a slow start against Miramonte in the first quarter, but turned things around with defensive intensity and hustle in an exciting game they ultimately lost 58-53.

The Mats took a 21-7 lead after the first quarter on some pinpoint deep shooting. But the Don’s took things up a notch in the second, cutting the deficit to 25-18 behind a 3 pointer from Dominic Sarica and a swooping drive to the rim by Liam Gallagher.

The Dons stayed within 10 points through most of a herky-jerky third quarter with Cooper Edelman being the dependable scorer with his euro-step drives to the basket.

In the fourth the Dons made a big push with their full court press to close the gap to 5 points. In an exciting sequence, Trevor Carillo knocked down a three, Jayden McClane scored one from the foul line, and Trevor got a steal and converted the layup. However, the Dons couldn’t get any closer in the end.

Cooper Edelman led the way with 11 points and 9 rebound, while front court mate Jaden McClane had 11 points and 7 rebounds. Dominic Sarica had 9 points and 5 rebounds. JB Frolich had 6 points and a strong floor game. Trevor Carillo and Liam Krackeler chipped in with 5 points and 4 rebounds apiece.
