Girls Varsity Soccer hosted Benicia on a very chilly Thursday night, but the Dons were bringing the heat throughout the chippy, physical match with the Panthers. The Dons shot early and often, but they didn’t get on the scoreboard until senior Lauren Yee finished after a great dribble and pass inside the box from fellow senior Natalie Means with 19 minutes left in the first half. With just over 13 minutes left in the half, freshman Taylor Mikalis sent a nice through ball to Means who made scoring look easy. Ten minutes into the second half the Dons were able to score their third goal of the night when Means found the back of the net again on a beautiful pass from junior Addie Bailey. The final goal of the game was a perfect tic-tac-toe passing play from Means to Bailey to junior Tatum Zuber who tapped the ball into the back of the net. The Panthers showed their frustration at the end of the game with physical play and kept pushing for a breakthrough, but the Dons’ defense held strong throughout the match, with goalies Catherine Judson and Melissa Adatepe earning a shutout.
The JV Girls also got a big win over the JV Panthers. Junior Alexa Malinovsky scored off of a corner kick from fellow junior Kendal Geddes. Sophomore Zoya Acuna had a beautiful free kick that landed in the back of the net. Freshman Lucca Debiasse also scored for the Dons. The play of the night may have been when freshman Sienna Houston scored straight off of her own corner kick. The final score was 4-1 in favor of the JV Dons.
The Dons are looking forward to hosting El Cerrito High School on Saturday at 6pm Varsity and 4pm JV. The Frosh team will play two home games on Saturday, Campo at 9am and Las Lomas at 1:30pm. Go Dons!
