Fun Friday night of basketball as Dons take on Northgate

The Varsity boys were fired up and the energy was high as the game quickly kicked off with the Dons pressuring the Broncos. Acalanes forced a turnover and put the first points on the board with Tate feeding Jake for a bucket under the basket. Northgate put up several buckets, the Dons responded, but defense was strong keeping it tight and at the mid-way point in the first period it was 5-4 Broncos leading.

The Dons bench was super motivated and were easily making a bigger ruckus than the home crowd. This energy, along with quick ball movement, made for an exciting first period. Great passing around the horn, repeated assists to Jake under the basket, and high energy were the key markers and by the end of the first period it was a 2 point game with the Broncos leading 12-10.

As the second period got going the excitement remained high but the scoring started to slow. Northgate had some quick scoring and was able to cause some turnovers and going into the lockers at half they edged the score to 24-13.

Seniors Levi and Noah with clear intent

As the second half got underway, both teams started hitting from deep. Justin, Jake and Jordan all had 3s in the 3rd period and Northgate had a collection of their own. Jack and Tate had sweet jumpers, the Dons bench collected their second or third warning for being too loud and it kept the temperature high as the Dons got into a groove. The Dons closed out the 3rd with a 5-0 run and the Broncos lead was narrowed back down to 9 with a score of 43-34.

Jordan looking for open play

The first matchup against Northgate earlier in season showed the Broncos ability to hit from deep. Through the first three quarters of this game the Dons were keeping the Broncos out of the paint forcing a lot 3 attempts with low accuracy. That seemed to change in the 4th period and the Broncos started consistently hitting from deep. The Dons got some great looks and hit some pretty shots that kept the fans cheering for more but the Broncos kept responding.

Nathan focused

The last score of the game was a nice little jumper from Nathan ending on a high note as the Broncos won on their home court 61-44.
