Coach Paul Curtis notches 300th win with boys soccer!

The Acalanes athletic community would like to salute Coach Paul Curtis after recently winning his 300th game with the Dons’ boys soccer program. Acalanes is fortunate to have been led by Coach Curtis since 1999. Over that time, Coach Curtis has led the Dons to eight DFAL titles and two NCS titles! More importantly, he has been an inspiration to hundreds of our student-athletes. He is proud of the fact that his teams were recognized as a top three scholastic team in NCS six times! We are so lucky to have Coach Curtis and congratulate him on this incredible milestone achievement!

Coach Curtis is a legend in the local soccer community having coached with the Lafayette and Walnut Creek soccer clubs since 1978 in addition to the last 22 years at Acalanes. Over his career, Coach Curtis has been recognized with various prestigious awards including:

California Youth Soccer Association District 4 Coach of the Year – 2003

CIF North Coast Section Boys Soccer Coach of the Year – 2011

California Coaches Association Boys Soccer Coach of the Year – 2012

Coach Curtis’ tenure at Acalanes dates back to when the boys soccer teams were playing in the fall and the soccer field was in the area between the tennis courts and baseball fields. When the boys season was later shifted to the winter in the football stadium, Coach Curtis recalls some challenging conditions while playing on a (muddy!) grass field. In addition to the success winning league and NCS titles, Coach Curtis takes joy in confronting the task of assisting his athletes as they navigate from early adolescence towards adulthood.  Coach Curtis commented “Helping them through challenges, balancing the many aspects of their life and being present as one who can demonstrate strong core values is what keeps me motivated to invest my time in this way.”

Coach Curtis began coaching while attending college at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he majored in Business Management. At Cal Poly, Paul participated on the Intercollegiate Soccer team and also filled a variety of roles in student body leadership. Paul is the father of 4 adult children (Acalanes graduates!) and 5 grandchildren and he is president of L.N. Curtis & Sons, an emergency responder supply business based in Walnut Creek that was founded in 1929!

THANK YOU COACH CURTIS!
