Girls Basketball Wins West Coast Jamboree Tournament

The Lady Dons defeated Carlsbad 69 to 46 to win the West Coast Jamboree at Granada High School Thursday night.  Despite the large margin of victory, the game was actually much closer throughout.  Carlsbad was led by all San Diego Selection (last season) Madison Huhn who happened to go for 40 points with 10 three pointers in their semifinal win.  It didn’t take long for Carlsbad to establish a lead as they got out to an 8 to 2 lead and extended it to double digits in the first quarter.  The Lady Dons spent the remainder of the first quarter and early 2nd playing catch-up.  A late second quarter surge allowed the Dons to go into the half with a 28-23 lead.  Carlsbad came out of the half ready to play and it was a back and forth 3rd quarter.  Finally in the 4th the Dons exploded lead by Sophie Chinn’s hustle on defense and on the boards.  Carlsbad had no answer for Sophie attacking the rim and her speed.  Natalie Lyons was a major standout, as she took the role of guarding Carlsbad’s best player for much of the game.  Sophie Chinn was the point leader with 20 (she easily had a double-double), Karyss Lacanlale scored 19, Dulci Vail added 10 and Natalie Lyons tacked on 9 points.

A special congratulations goes out to our 3 super freshmen Karyss Lacanlale (Tournament MVP), Dulci Vail (All Tournament Selection) and Sophie Chinn (All Tournament Selection).
