FROSH BOYS DROP SECOND GAME IN A ROW AT AMADOR VALLEY

The Frosh Boys fell to 2-3 on the season losing a tough one on the road at Amador Valley on Tuesday.

Missing the main point guards and a third of the squad due to the Holiday was a tough hurdle to overcome as sixteen man deep Amador Valley applied constant full court pressure forcing many turnovers. The Dons got out of the gate well and were only down 5-4 after Sam Bishop and Braeden Christie buckets midway through the first. Despite three highlight blocks from Avyn Morales, Acalanes was down 13-4 at the end of the quarter.

In the second, the Dons continued to struggle to get any good looks on offense and at one point did not score for over an entire quarter. Amador, buoyed by their fairly raucous fans, poured it on taking a 27-5 lead into the break.

We all know the Dons won’t just lie down and they came out in the second half with an aggressive zone defense that threw Amador out of their rhythm. Bishop had a quick steal and converted two free throws on the other end. Christie wreaked havoc in the backcourt with several deflections and was fouled on a three converting 2 of 3 at the line. However, #12 on Amador answered the call hitting back to back three’s as they continued to pull away extending their lead to 44-16 at the end of the third.

The Dons continued to fight until the very end but Amador also took the fourth quarter as the final score was 61-23. Bishop led the way for the Dons with 9 while Christie had 7 and Jake Hawkins, Cole Gwatney and Maddox Malm chipped in two points each. Amador was led by #12 with 12 points (four three’s) and #13 with 9. The Dons were outgunned by 24 points from deep as Amador connected on nine three’s to our one. We were 10-19 (53%) from the stripe vs. 6-9 (67%) for Amador.

The Dons are looking forward to the upcoming Dougherty Valley Tournament on December 28th to 30th after enjoying a well deserved break with their families for the Holidays. It’s a long season men…keep fighting and GO DONS!!!
