JV Hoops: Dons Sprint Past KIPP King 76-47

Acalanes JV Hoops breezed past KIPP King Friday afternoon in San Lorenzo 76-47. Conor Hession, Ian Salmon, and Joe Reidenbach scored 13 points apiece to lead the effort, with Reidenbach contributing 8 rebounds as well.

The Dons jumped out to a 20-10 lead in the first quarter, with Hession’s midrange game on full display and Salmon taking the ball end-to-end, finding lay-ups for himself or else easy buckets for his teammates.

Acalanes extended its lead to 36-21 by halftime, with Liam Krackeler dishing out assists and Reidenbach dominating around the rim in the second quarter. After stumbling a bit in the 3rd quarter, the Dons ran away in the 4th, wearing down KIPP King and scoring a bunch of fast break baskets.

At Saturday’s press conference in Lafayette after practice, Coach Steve Herley emphasized the effectiveness of the Dons transition game. “We have been working on the pace of play, using our speed to create easy baskets, especially coming off a defensive stop or forced turnover.”

Mathew Bacon led Acalanes with 10 rebounds and chipped in 8 points. Liam Krackeler led the team with 7 assists to go along with his 6 points. Jaden McClane chipped in 8 points.  11 Dons scored in a balanced effort.
