Acalanes Lady Dons take 1st Round of NorCal Championships

On a beautiful evening at the Heaston Aquatics Center, our Acalanes Dons hosted the San Ramon Valley Wolves in the 1st round of the CIF-NorCal Water Polo Championships. The Lady Dons started out fast when Heidi Heffelfinger (Sr) drew a power play 1:10 into the game and then Heidi scored 20 seconds later thanks to an assist by Olivia Williams (So). From then on, the Lady Dons held firm, strong on defense, and a dominating offense led by Heidi, with a couple of assists on the counter by goalie Audrey Cox. Audrey had an exceptional game in goal, with only two goals getting past. The Lady Dons were consistent in their scoring during the game, scoring 3 goals in the 1st, 4 in the 2nd, 4 in the 3rd, and 1 in the 4th, holding SRV to one goal in each of the 1st and 2nd periods. Audrey and the defense blanked SRV in the 3rd and 4th.

Standouts for the game: 7 goals from Heidi Heffelfinger! Great job Heidi! Summing up the results, of Heidi’s 7 goals, she was assisted by Olivia (3), Archer (1), Audrey (1), Potter (1), Koopah (1); other Lady Dons scoring included Sarah Potter (2), Sara Archer (1) (assist Olivia), Wendy Heffelfinger (1) (assist Potter), Maize O’Hare (assist Heidi).

Great team defense, an impressive offense showing and 10 saves from our fantastic goalie Audrey Cox helped cement the win against a tough SRV team.

The Acalanes Lady Dons (#2 Seed, Division 2) will host the Lady Dons from Amador Valley (#3 Seed, Division 2) tomorrow night at the Heaston Aquatics Center at 5pm. Amador Valley had an impressive win against Carondelet (11-5), setting up a rematch from earlier this season, when Acalanes won in tournament play 9-8, the only time these two teams have met this season.

Show up tomorrow wearing your Blue to cheer our Lady Dons on. Go Acalanes!

Heidi Heffelfinger (Sr) (3) scores on a breakaway goal, assisted by goalie Audrey Cox (Jr) in Tuesdays 12-2 win over the San Ramon Wolves. The Lady Dons take on the Amador Valley Lady Dons at the Heaston Aquatics Center at 5pm tomorrow night, Thursday 11/18/21.
