Last Thursday, in their final non-conference game before league play begins, the Acalanes Girls Varsity volleyball team hosted Pittsburg High School.
In the first game, junior Hanna Hageboeck started the Dons’ scoring with a kill, and sophomore Jade Profilio aced her next serve. Junior Katelyn Olin then delivered an ace. Senior Aly Kirke’s kill gave the Dons a 7-5 lead. Olin’s block followed by a kill from junior Ryann Jones helped the Dons maintain their lead at 12-10.
A well-placed floater by Hageboeck, another kill by Jones and a block and a kill off an overpass from Kirke gave the Dons an 18-14 lead. Sophomore Monica Dikova continued her service run with an ace, and kills by Jones and senior Emma Johnson gave the Dons a 21-14 lead. Pittsburg fought back to tie it at 23 but after getting a side out, the Dons won the first game 25-23 with a Jones kill.
