JV FOOTBALL: Taking Care of Business, 45 Dons-Mariners 0

The JV Dons loading up to take a two hour bus ride to beat the Mariners.

The Acalanes JV made the long trip to Seaside to take on the Marina High School Mariners on Saturday. Marina is a newer high school that has only one football team.  They are loaded with juniors and seniors and were also undefeated, before Saturday. As usual, the coaches had the boys ready to play.  The scoring started early when quarterback Jake Boselli threw a 50 yard touchdown pass to Paul Kuhner on the very first offensive play.  On the next possession, alternating quarterback Sully Bailey ran one in for the first of his two rushing touchdowns for the day.  Sully ran through defenders the entire afternoon.  Boselli then found Kuhner again for 30 yards and the route was on.  Jake finished with three touchdown passes for the day.

The offensive line continued their outstanding play, keeping both quarterbacks clean as they handled the much bigger Mariner’s lineman.  Trevor Carillo, JD Orear, Henry Hagel, Brady Morrow and Tyler Gerhardt controlled the line of scrimmage all day long.  Their play was gritty and impressive.

No Stopping the Dons!

Defensively the Dons dominated.  Marina could not move the ball on the ground, despite some huge O lineman.  Calvin Kotarba had an outstanding game at cornerback.  His first half pick 6 sent a message to the Mariners that the Dons could score on offensive and defense.  Gavin Bender, Ace Reeder, Jack Giorgianni and the Bash Brothers (Marshal Anderson and Everett Glass) took down opposing runners throughout the afternoon.

Henry Souza had a couple of nice catches down the sidelines and Mason Zirkel ran for some tough yards, and took another shuttle pass from Boselli to the house in the first half.  The second half featured a lot of Jack Miller runs, a running clock and the same stout Don’s defensive as the first half.

The JV team is 3-0 and yet to give up a score.  These boys mean business.  Go Dons! And…Fear the Blue!
