JV Football: Here We GO GO GO!

The JV Dons Football team played in a scrimmage on Saturday vs Granada – It was so great to see the boys back in action in the Fall, when Football is supposed to be played! Don’t get me wrong, I will take High School Football at any time of the year, but it feels right in the Fall…

Coach Greg Young brought his team to the Acalanes Field ready to go! The team looked sharp right from warm up’s through special teams! Coach Young has a great set of assistant coaches, they all are seasoned veterans and know how to relate to boys this age, and it shows.

The scrimmage started off with some special teams practice – each side’s Kickoff Team and the Kickoff Return Teams got to practice twice – Both return men for the JV Dons looked looked ready to go to distance, and our kicker, Ace Reeder, had a touchback on his first attempt! Which is very impressive for a JV Kicker!

Going Nowhere-Fear the Blue

From Special Teams the squads took turns on offense, with each team getting 10 minutes of offense, and 10 minutes of defensive work – The JV Dons started on offense and got right to work! What is going to set this team apart from others in our League is the offensive line, and not just the starting 5… the depth of the line is also very impressive. Henry Hagel, JD Orear, Brady Morrow, Tyler Gerhardt and Trevor Carrillo all looked very good on Saturday – These boys have obviously all hit the weight room over the off season! They provide the protection for the rest of the Offense, if they don’t start off by doing their jobs right, nothing else works. They know this, and have shown they can rise to the occasion and take care of business – The JV Dons have a unique aspect to their offensive threat, they have 2 very skilled quarterbacks. Right hander, Jake Boselli and Left Handed Sully Bailey – both QB’s looked sharp right from the stat. On their first possession, Jake Boselli rolled to his right and hit Paul Kuhner, in stride, down the sideline for a 40 yard Touchdown. The very next series, Southpaw Sully Bailey rolled to his left, and threw a dime on the run to Wide Out Kiran Foster. Running Backs Jack Giorgianni and Jack Miller proved that the running game for the Dons is going to be solid this season as well – both ran hard and physical.

Touchdown Time-Moving down that line!

On the defensive side of the ball – The JV team looked just as sharp – There are still some assignments that need to be perfected, but nothing stood out as a deficiency. The boys were swarming to the ball and tackling low. Gavin Bender wreaked havoc on the Granada offense, which only managed to put the ball in the End Zone one time all afternoon. Linebackers Sully Bailey and Jack Giorgianni made sure everyone knew where to be, and lead by example all day! The secondary pretty much smothered the Granada receivers all afternoon.

The JV Dons are on the road this coming week to play Sierra High School in Manteca on Aug 28th – Game time is 4:30 pm – follow by Varsity at 7pm
