In their second game of the season on Thursday, the Junior Varsity Dons eked out a 4-point victory against the visiting Miramonte Matadors, splitting the sets at 25-18 and 22-25.
The Dons started the first set with a 4-0 serving run by Mara Korzeniowska, and held onto their lead, which they finished with a well-placed bump set by Maddie Bacon and a cross-court kill by Jasmine Frost.
In the second set, the Dons built an 8-2 lead under the kills of Ava Bunton, Sofie Foster, and Hanna Hageboeck, but a Matadors rally tied the set at 9-9 and then brought them further ahead to 14-20. The Dons outscored their opponent in the final phase of the set, but were not able to close the gap.
Viewers of the second set were treated to a breath-catching rally in which the players of both teams touched the ball at least 40 times, and soon after, a combo diving-save from Foster, to an uppercut pass from Hageboeck to Kylie Choi, who sent a rainbow bump into the empty Matadors backcourt.
