The Dons began the evening by honoring their five beloved Seniors, Emily Keeler, Lue Van Handel, Maddie Rogers, Olivia Parnell and Sami Hansen, in a moving pre-game ceremony, with family, friends and many Dons soccer alumni in attendance.
Spirits were high at the beginning of the match, with the Dons coming out of the gate with a strong, aggressive start. The referee opted not to call two noteworthy fouls early in the game that would both have resulted in penalty kicks for the Dons. However the Dons capitalized on a beautiful assist by Senior Olivia Parnell to Junior Lauren Yee for the Dons’ only goal of the game with 23 minutes left in the first half.
Although the Dons had plenty of chances later in the first half and throughout the second, the Dons were unable to get the ball in the back of the net for the rest of the game. The Dons’ defense held strong until the Mats scored the tying goal with less than two minutes remaining in the match.
The Dons will play their final game of the season at Las Lomas on Wednesday, May 26th at 7:30pm.
