On Thursday night, wearing a Don’s uniform for the first time, the frosh girls took to the court with authority. Getting the Dons off to a strong start, Jade Profilio showed her serving prowess with a run that included 6 aces. Ruthy Protass, Monica Dikova and Mika Bocobo also served up aces to increase the Don’s lead. The Dons racked up more points with powerful hitting from Mika Bocobo, Monica Divoka, and Tea Sloane Smith. Setting up the plays with great passing from Mika Bocobo and Jade Profilio with spot-on sets by Eva McGrath, the Dons win the first set with a score of 25-19.
The second set was more closely contested with the lead exchanging hands several times. The Dons got off to an early lead with solid hitting from Tea Sloane Smith, and teamed up with Ruthy Protass for some well timed blocks. Eva McGrath then got on a serve run, followed by successful serves from Chloe Lockwood and Cayenne Combs. Megan Hill had a great kill on a set from Eva McGrath, who in the next point set Jade Profilio for a back court bomb. It was then a serving battle until the score was 15-15. The Broncos then went on a serving run, bringing the score to 23-15. The Dons made a valiant effort to regain the lead but fell short with a final score 25-16 Northgate.
It was a good start for the frosh Dons. Next up the Campolindo Cougars on Saturday, May 1, 2020.
