Boys Varsity Tennis Team Update for the Week of March 15
It’s a busy week for the tennis team with three final matches of the season! Two down and a final Senior Day match against Miramonte at home to go on Friday. Results from earlier this week:
March 16 vs. Campo The Dons fell to Campo 3-6 in an extremely close match. 5 matches went to a 3rd set tiebreaker and the other matches had set tiebreakers. Singles players, Tyler Toni, Alex Thornton, Luke Brightbill, Riley Bonner, Zach Snyder, and Saylen Cardoni, all battled hard. In doubles, Brown and McGlynn played some of their best tennis of the year, along with Tucker Brewer and Zubin Acuña, who were named “Dons Players of the Match”. Zubin crushed volleys at the net like it was going out of style and Tucker backed him up with some amazing gets and fantastic groundstrokes. And finally, seniors, Lewis Collinson and Zevin Acuña, won their line at number 3 doubles.
March 17 vs. College Park The Dons SWEPT and came away with their best result for the year, winning 9-0!! Senior, Alex Thornton, fought back from being down in the first set to come back and win. Let’s give a shout out to our seniors. Zevin Acuña and Lewis Collinson, both seniors, are undefeated on the year, continuing their reign at number 2 doubles. They’ve won all of their matches in a 3rd set tiebreaker for the year. Senior Anh-Luu Nguyen, played in and won his first official Varsity match today, with his doubles partner, Tucker Brewer. Finally, Sophomore Tyler Toni, was pushed to a 3rd set where he played some phenomenal tennis to close out his match with a win. Because of his amazing efforts he was named, “Dons Player of the Match”. Congrats to everyone who competed today and brought home a BIG W on all lines.
