Varsity Girls Soccer Takes Down Concord

The Varsity girls soccer team traveled to Concord High School on Wednesday night. With only 4 league games remaining in the season, each game is a “must-win.”

The Dons came out strong, controlling possession and exhibiting tough defense. Freshman Addie Bailey got herself free to take a hard shot on goal, only to have the goalkeeper deflect it. However, Junior Emily Keeler was there to put the ball in the back of the net to give the Dons the lead at 1-0, where the score would remain until the half.

Concord came out in the second half pressuring our defense with several shots on goal. They somehow got one past our keeper with a high lob shot to even the score at 1-1 with about 30 minutes remaining in the game.

The Dons knew they had plenty of time to regain the lead and they did not panic. Some excellent passing in the midfield gave our forwards some good looks at the goal. Senior Ivy Souza connected with Freshman Tatum Zuber and Tatum made a fantastic shot to give the Dons the lead 2-1. Minutes later, Freshman Addie Bailey fed Tatum Zuber and from about 25 yards out, Tatum sailed the ball over the goalkeeper’s outstretched arms to give the Dons a more comfortable lead at 3-1.

The Dons played tremendous defense, anchored by Junior center back, Sami Hansen. Outside back Junior Olivia Parnell also played very well. Senior midfielder Ellie Meyer was tough in the midfield, connecting several passes and displaying tenacious defense.

Next up for the Dons is a home game on Friday night against Las Lomas at 7pm. Another “must-win” game! Come support your Dons.
