The Dons matched up against league-leading Northgate on Friday night in a highly anticipated game. Northgate had won their last 6 in a row, and the Dons were hoping to spoil their win streak.
In the first half, both teams were playing extremely well. Fast-paced play mixed with aggressiveness. At around the 30-minute mark, a breakdown by the defense led to a Northgate goal. Dons down 0-1. Then only a few minutes later, Northgate strikes again to strengthen their lead by two at the half.
The Dons came out with a vengeance in the second half. Outplaying Northgate, they were on the offensive and had them on their heels. The Dons had some good looks, but couldn’t convert. At around the 25-minute mark, Addie Bailey was pressuring the defense in their backfield and she forced a mistake…Addie scores to get the Dons on the board!
With minutes remaining, the Dons had some great opportunities, but couldn’t get one past their goalkeeper, who made some terrific saves. Dons fall 1-2. This brings the Dons overall record to 11-4-2, 4-4-1 in league.
Senior Natasha Malinovsky played extremely well in the midfield, as did fellow Senior Ivy Souza. Freshman Addie Bailey also played tough in the front line. Junior Aliye Wingate was on fire in the backline, as were outside backs Freshman Jacque Peacock and Senior Dylan Hagglund.
The Dons will play at Concord High on Wednesday night at 7pm.
