JV DONS BASKETBALL BEAT COUGARS

In dramatic and exciting fashion, the Acalanes JV Boys basketball team found a grit and determination on Friday night in Moraga which had eluded them over the prior handful of games to pull off a nail biting come-from-behind victory over crosstown rival Campolindo by a final score of 40 to 37. After holding a slim 3 point to end the first quarter, the Dons struggled in the second quarter, plagued by a stalled offense and a too often spotty defense which resulted in a 25-19 Cougar advantage at the half. But the Dons were not to be deterred, even in a loud and hostile road gym. Playing perhaps their best overall third quarter of the year, the Dons tightened their defense with relentless pressing and more determined rebounding to carry a slim 2 point lead into the fourth quarter.
In a squeaky tight fourth quarter, the Dons wirthstood Campo’s last second desperation shot to walk away with its most gratifying win of the year. Reflecting their evenly balanced offensive attack, four Dons—Jake James, Tate Nelson, Tyler Murphy and Yanaton Draznin—led the Acalanes squad in scoring with 8 points apiece, while Kai Feinberg pitched in 7 points. The JV team next plays on Friday, January 24th at home against College Park.
