Dons Varsity Volleyball Loses Tough One at Northgate

Your Varsity Volleyball Dons traveled to Northgate on Tuesday night to battle the Broncos.  The horses came out strong and took advantage of our team’s mistakes, taking set one 15-25.  In the second set, the Dons showed signs of life but were not able to keep up with the bucking Broncos, 19-25.  Now with their backs against the wall, the Dons came together as a group and battled to a 25-12 romp in set three.  Set four was full of fireworks, with the Dons building an early lead, the Broncos coming back with a whinny, and the Dons re-taking the reins at the end…25-22 Acalanes.  In the tiebreaker, the Broncos rode some lucky bounces to a 7-1 early lead.  The Dons worked their way back to a near-tie 12-13, before Northgate claimed the last two points of the night.

The short-handed Dons came together and fought to turn the match around, but fell short.  Highlights were provided by Maddi Risch, Annika Olson, Kaylin Hiatt, Rachel Go, Elsa Clever, Erin Meade, Cailie McVay, Roxy Cummings, Kennedy Cornish and Hayes Hollar.  The Dons now have a week off the get healthy for the stretch run.
