YOUR Acalanes Dons Volleyball Team hosted Alhambra on “Think Pink Night” as the team raised funds for breast cancer awareness, and got their first league victory as well, led by outstanding overall play from Hayes Hollar, Madi Risch, Rachel Go and Senior Captain Elsa Clever.

 

First Set:

4-0:      Nice up from Olivia Elliott, a Hollar roll shot kill, followed by two straight Hollar aces sets the tone early. Yeah baby.

6-1:      Big Risch kill. Big Dons lead.

7-4:      Kennedy Cornish crushes the Go set, but the Bulldogs are closing…

9s:        …and then they take the lead but Hollar ties it back up with a nifty kill.

12-10:  Clever joins in on the dog pile with a big kill.

14-11:  Clever again!

17-14:  Risch. Stuff block. Big point.

20-14:  Hollar crushes one.

21-14:  Now Cornish crushes one! Timeout ‘Dogs.

22-16:  See above. Yeah Ken!

24-17:  Go pass. Clever set. Elliott kill. Unorthodox. Who cares? Set point!

25-18:  Pure Cailey McVay pass and a monster Clever kill as the Dons force the ‘Dogs to roll over in the first set.

 

Second Set:

3-6:      Elliott. Tip tip hooray!

4-6:      Risch rip. Dons fighting back from an early hole.

7-8:      Risch again, and then a Hollar roof. Closer!

9-10:    Clever kill. Dons playing role of Dog Catcher…

10s:      Tied! Hollar kills the Go set.

11-10:  Go Ace. R-Go!

13-12:  Risch kill!…No! ‘Dogs dig it out. And then Risch kills it again.

16-17:  Cornish big block up front! This set is a dog fight.

18-21: Timeout Dons after a couple of unlucky bounces.

21-23:  Hollar kills one with a floater. Dons hanging on.

22-23:  Hollar Ace! Timeout Alhambra.

23-24:  Annika Olson big roof! Timely! Another timeout Bulldogs.

24s:      Clever Ace! Yasss.

25-24:  Risch kill! Set point and a huge Dons comeback.

26-24:  Risch kill! Beauty Hollar pass and Go set. Winner!

 

Third Set:

1-0:      Cornish keeps the Dons rolling with a kill to start the 3rd.

3s:        Cornish again.

9-11:    Long rally. Multiple digs from McVay and Hollar. Risch finishes it positively.

10-11:  Kaylin Hiatt Ace!

13-14:  Risch thunder-bomb kill as the Dons close down a gap once again. Timeout Alhambra.

15s:      Risch kill from the Pipe (back row).

16-15: Okay this was crazy. For some reason I missed, Hollar was lying on the floor. And then the ball came her way, so she stuck her arm out and…it goes over! And it’s a winner that’s not returned! Amazing. Dons take the lead.

18-16:  Nice Go back set to Hollar. Sweet kill.

19-17:  Clever kill. Dons keeping the pressure on the pooches.

21-18:  Risch: Laser beam angle kill off of the perfect Go set. That’s some real volleyball right there yes sir.

24-21:  Hollar kill. Match point!

25-22:  Clever kill to put the ‘Dogs in the kennel. Dons win the match 3-0!
