Volleyball Girls JV Capture Win At Castro Valley

The Dons JV team traveled south to take on the Castro Valley Trojans on Wednesday afternoon. Game 1 was close early before a nice serving run from setter Aisha Mohanty got the Dons out to a 5 point lead 9-4. Aisha and middle blocker Kylie Wood also connected on a quick “1” to keep the CV defense on their heels. Sarah Coons had a nice service run with freshman middle Aly Kirke punishing a few overpasses and outside Makenzie Sauer recording kills from both the left and right side.  Late game offense was provided by Lauren Davis who pounded a 5 to the floor and then tipped one down the line as the Dons took it 25-11.

Game 2 was closer thanks in no small part to local mom Katie Sowarby switching sides in the stands after not learning her lesson last year.   The Dons led early but CV scrapped back to tie 7-7. Fortunately, 2 kills from Tate Huisingh – one middle, one turned line – and another from Lauren helped the team regain their composure to stretch it back to a 16-9 lead. Acalanes kept up the pressure with several hits from RS Lyla Cox and another crushed 1 from Aly. Acalanes held on to win 25-16 with solid defense from libero Sydney Sowarby and DS Daisy Sibley not allowing CV to get any momentum back.

Good win Dons!
