YOUR Acalanes Dons Girls Volleyball Team hosted their first league match of the season against the Las Lomas Knights. Great to see a sizeable and boisterous crowd on hand to cheer the Dons!

 

First Set:

2-0:      Lane Webster Ace! Kaboom!

4-1:      Hayes Hollar smooth pass to Webster, who sets up Madi Risch. Madi crushes it. Boom!

8-2:      Cailey McVay Ace! Timeout Knights.

9-2:      Timeout ineffectual. McVay Ace again!

10-4:    Elsa Clever smokes a kill.

12-7:    Roxy Cummings rips an overpass.

14-11:  Cummings kill after an LL run. Yassss.

19-16:  Hollar sharp angle kill. Alright!

20-17:  Cummings booming kill.

21-18:  See above. Yes Rox!

21s:      Timeout Dons after another Knights run.

21-23:  Timeout Dons again. Time for Plan B, or maybe for Plankton’s Plan Z.

21-25:  Ouch. On to the 2nd.

 

Second Set:

1-2:      Olivia Elliott rips a back-corner kill to break a long LL scoring streak.

3-2:      Webster dives to save a hot potato off the rafters (Dons score) and then she saves a pass out of the net (Dons score) and so the Dons take the lead.

6-2:      Risch! Ace!

9-3:      Clever! Roof!

10-3:    McVay! Ace! TO LL.

14-8:    Rachel Go sets it; Risch kills it.

16-8:    Annika Olson gets in on the action with a middle kill. Another timeout Knights.

18-10:  Hollar rocks one from the pipe.

21-10:  Webster! Ace! Woo Dons.

23-10:  See above!

24-14:  Olson big hit. Winner!

24-17:  Timeout Dons. Despite the score, Dons need to tighten it up. And they do, winning the second 25-17.

 

Third Set:

1s:        Olson kill to start the third. ‘Sco Dons!

3-9:      Big Clever kill. Needed it.

5-13:    Nothing to see here. Move along.

7-17:    Cummings kill. Dons need a big run.

11-20:  Hollar kill…but points are REALLY hard to come by right now.

12-21:  See above.

13-21:  Webster front row kill.

14-23:  See above.

15-23:  Hollar Ace.

15-25:  Dons drop the 3rd as the Knights charge ahead in the match.

 

Fourth Set:

5-6:      Cummings pounds one off the blockers.

7-8:      Cummings again. Dons working hard to knock the Knights off of their horse.

8s:        Cummings again. Yes!

9-8:      Clever Ace! “Mo” turning?

10-11:  Risch kill. Phew…Knights galloping again.

12-11:  Beauty Webster set to Risch. You know the result.

15-12:  Risch serves a “Dirty Ace” that rolls over the net.

18-14:  Clever kill off the block. The Dons Armada is making a ridiculous amount of noise.

19-14:  Cummings shoots a low screamer in between the defenders.

23-16:  Risch with a huge kill off the syrupy Go set. Perfect.

25-18:  Risch kill off the block. Tool. Dons win the 4th (looking like a different team) and force the 5th and deciding set. Let’s go.

 

Fifth Set:

2-1:      Olson waits…waits…jumps…and crushes the overpass off of the Risch power serve. YUMMY!

3-8:      BUT…timeout Dons. LL playing solid ball and suddenly the match is slipping away.

4-9:      Olson smart roll shot kill.

5-9:      McVay Ace!

6-9:      McVay Ace! Still alive! Timeout LL!

6-11:    Timeout Dons. Very dicey at this point.

7-11:    Clever out-jousts the Knights at the Knet.

8-12:    Clever again with the kill. Trying to carry the team to the Holy Grail.

9-14:    Risch kill but match point.

10-15:  Oh no. The Dons have fallen in 5. The Knights ride off victorious to celebrate at their round table with non-alcoholic, gluten-free Mead.
