Another big rivalry match tonight in a hot gym as YOUR Acalanes Dons Girls Volleyball Team hosted Miramonte. Another great crowd filled the gym as the “Dons Armada” student group has shown up in force. Roll Highlights.

 

First Set:

1-0:      Madi Risch stuffs it at the night for the first point.

2-3:      Amazing diving dig from Elsa Clever.

5-4:      Kennedy Cornish floats a nifty little winner over the blockers. Smart play.

5-11:    Timeout Dons as the Mats run off seven straight.

7-11:    Clever ripper in the middle as the Dons fight back.

9-20:    Timeout Dons again to regroup after another big Matador run.

11-23:  Olivia Elliott stuffs an overpass.

13-25:  Dons can’t get untracked and drop the First. Let’s hope they see red and take out the Matadors in the Second.

 

Second Set:

4-9:      Risch kill.

6-12:    Risch deep corner kill.

8-14:    Lane Webster set to Clever in the middle for a kill.

9-14:    Clever Ace!

10-15:  Roxy Cummings kill.

11-17:  Annika Olson powers a kill in the middle.

12-17:  Hayes Hollar kill as the home crowd implores the Dons to come back.

17-21:  And they do rally back, with a Cummings kill down the line. Sweet.

18-22:  See above!

19-23:  Elliott tools the blockers.

19-25:  Dons, however, run out of time.

 

Third Set:

1-0:      Clever nifty rip. Dons need to charge hard at the Matadors.

2-0:      Erin Meade with a gentle tip…over the outstretched arms of the blockers.

3-1:      Diving ups from Webster and Cailey McVay, an Erin Meade block, and a Hollar winner off the blockers.

5-6:      Olson kill!

7s:        Risch rip!

8-7:      Olson Ace!

10-7:    Clever kill. Timeout Mats! Dons stretching out a lead for the first time tonight.

11-7:    Super Rachel Go pass…Risch kill.

17-12:  Hollar deep kill. Smooth. Untouched.

19-13:  Go to Olson for a kill.

21-13:  Hollar Ace caroms off the legs of a Mats player.

25-18:  Clever Roof! Dons win the set. Let’s Go!

Fourth Set:

6-9:      McVay solid dig. Webster solid set. Risch solid kill. Just solid all around.

7-9:      Olson Ace!

10-11:  Clever pounds one off a back row defender. With Authority.

14s:      Beauty Webster set to Hollar. You know the result.

15-14:  Massive Risch hammer as the Dons retake the lead.

18-19:  Clever kills it! But no, the Mats somehow dig it out, but overpass it, so Clever kills it again!  Two fer one.

21-22:  Smart roll shot kill from Hollar as the Dons fight desperately to hang on. Gut check time for the Dons.

23s:      H&O Roofing Company gets a block (Hollar and Olson). Tied up! Time out Mats. Still gut check time.

24s:      Mats tie it back up after a long rally.

24-25:  Timeout Dons as Acalanes faces match point. I see nail biting in the stands…

24-26:  …and things don’t go the Dons way in the fourth set or the match tonight, as the Dons are impaled (figuratively) by the Matadors in 4 sets. Bummer, but Dons will bounce back!
