On Tuesday the Dons JV squad took on Campolindo on the road in front of a fired up crowd. Campo jumped out to an early 8-3 but a timeout settled the team down a bit. Great defense from libero Sydney Sowarby and serving from OH Makenzie Sauer helped get the game back to 13-13, and a two roofs from middle Kylie Wood gave the Dons the lead at 16-15. After a tense back and forth hard kills from RS Lauren Davis and Mackenzie gave the Dons a 21-18 lead and all the momentum with Tate Huisingh serving. Great defense and solid serves from Kylie brought the Dons the game 1 win 25-19.
The Cougar crowd was subdued to start game 2 but the tight 6-6 early score got them back into the match and Campo pushed to a 14-10 lead. Nice deep serving from setter Sarah Coons and a sweet line tip from Lauren got the Dons back to 14-14, then a crushed 1 from Kylie and 2 hitting errors from the Cougars earned the Dons a 17-15 lead. The quality hitting once again gave the momentum back to the Dons and a booming “Lets go Dons” cheer rang out through a Campo timeout. The Dons ran up a 22-17 lead behind Aisha Mohanty serves and offense from freshman Aly Kirke, before a big run got Campo back to 22-22. The Dons got it back on a Mackenzie hammer, and then they put it away 25-23 for the 2 set win over the Cougars, with nice comebacks in both frames. Great job Dons!
