JV Girls Volleyball
Oct 8: The Acalanes Girls JV Team traveled to Alhambra and took down the Bulldogs in straight sets 25-16, 26-24 to remain undefeated in league play. The game was tight early in the first set before the Dons took control behind a mix of effective serving and passing, with several kills by Roxy Cummings and blocks by Lexi Fraser and Elsa Clever, as they closed out the first set 25-16. The second set started off slower but the Dons were able to build a comfortable lead at 19-13 before a series of errors led to the set being knotted up at 22-22. Acalanes fell behind 24-23 but made key serves and timely defensive plays to move ahead 25-24. On match point, the Dons dug an attack by the Bulldogs and registered a kill on the outside to finish off Alhambra 26-24. With the win, Acalanes keep their DFAL record unblemished at 4-0 (12-2 overall)—Go Dons!!
Oct 13: The Dons faced Miramonte at home in the sweltering heat and went down in three sets 21-25, 25-23, 9-15. The match was close from the beginning as the teams battled to a 16-16 tie in the first set before the Mats took the lead on a series of errors by the Dons. Acalanes still kept it close but ended up losing the first set 21-25 on a hitting error. The Dons started off stronger in the second set with improved passing and hitting along with more energetic defense to keep the Mats off balance for most of the set. After getting to set point at 24-19, the Dons faced a comeback from Miramonte who battled back to 24-23, but Acalanes buckled down to close out the set with a kill on the outside. The third set started out tight as the teams exchanged points and were knotted up at 8-8. The Dons unfortunately made several consecutive errors that allowed Miramonte to take a lead that they did not relinquish as Acalanes ended losing the third set 9-15 and the match. Acalanes’ DFAL record moved to 4-1 (12-3 overall) and the Dons look to get back on another winning streak when they host Dougherty Valley on Oct 15 at home. Go Dons!
