The Acalanes Baseball Foundation (Hardball Baseball, LLC) is a parent funded and run entity that helps facilitate the baseball season including field projects/maintenance, buying new equipment/gear, to even renting porta potties! It typically costs between $40-50k per year to run the program and give our coaches and players the support they need throughout the season. And as you may have guessed, this takes a lot of parent involvement and support!
What’s going on at the Field…
We recently completed a large overhaul and upgrade of the infield where we hired some former and existing groundskeepers from the Oakland A’s to completely renovate the infield. We replaced all of the dirt with infield clay and rebuilt the mound/batters’ box. We also purchased several pieces of equipment (a new Hack Attack pitching machine being the most substantial) and completed three larger projects:
-Built a new batting cage between the softball field (where the existing visitor bullpen is located)
-Turfed existing bullpen
-Tarped existing batting cages with tenting in the center for rain run-off
We typically have a “Parent/Player Workday” a week or before the season starts to do some final sprucing and clean-up to the facility.
Fundraising:
In addition to parent/family donations, we typically run a couple of fundraising events (e.g. Home Run Derby, Super Bowl Squares) during the season and always ask for parents to help run them.
