On a chilly Friday night, the Acalanes Varsity Football team faced off at home against the Las Lomas Knights. Prior to the game, the Seniors on the team were honored along with their families. The Dons were competing to secure their first outright league championship in 43 years, and to continue a seven-game home win streak that extended back to last season. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be as Las Lomas dominated the game with a strong running attack that allowed them to control the time of possession.
The Dons defense was led by Elias Kaplanes-Jones (#16), Finley Rivera (#13), Bethel Imasuen (#65), and Wyatt Cooper (#11). Kaplanes-Jones converted a fumble recovery to a TD, and also recorded a key interception.
The defense put up a valiant effort by making crucial stops on third and fourth downs to give the Dons a fighting chance.
On offense, Wyatt Zawadski (#5) got the start at QB due to an injury Tyler Winkles (#6) suffered during the Campo game. Wyatt completed 13 of his 30 passes for 72 yards, one TD, and four INTs. RB Josh Elerts (#89) ran for 65 yards on 12 carries and added 22 receiving yards on 3 catches.
Las Lomas QB Dylan Thomas completed 15 of 26 passes for 160 yards and a TD, while also rushing for a TD. RB Kaden Lagaya carried the ball 30 times for 128 yards and a TD.
In the end, Las Lomas played with determination and heart, securing a well-deserved win. The Dons look to bounce back as they head into the playoffs.
