Acalanes vs. Clayton Valley Charter, Oct 17
Our freshman Dons prevailed in their match-up with CVC, putting on a defensive clinic, out scoring the Ugly Eagles 20-3.
The Dons “D” showed up, specifically in the red zone. CVC had a successful initial drive, getting the ball to the half yard line, and D-line (Kyle Sanftner (56), Sean Tandler (55), Matei Bolata (60), Brandon Simmons (45)) put up a wall, holding CVC to three. Brandon Simmons (45) had his best outing with strong pressure, a great TFL and a blocked field goal.
The backfield also delivered. Mason Andersen (21) batted away one pass, and intercepted another, for a pick six. Landon Paige (34) had a near interception, broke up a pass and had a TFL. Cash Woehrle (8) and Marco Long (19) also got in the pass break up rhythm as well, and Long (19) did some great downfield blocking.
On offense it was great to have Colton Whalen-Schlosser (9) back in the line-up, he came back without missing a beat. He connected with five different receivers, Maxim Volpian (1) was his top target with five receptions, and with Treysen Roberts (11) for four. Finn Aiken (15), Cash Woehrle (8) and Kyle Sanftner (56) all connected for at least one reception. Whalen-Schlosser (9) also carried the ball five times, one for six, one for two. Volpian (1) also had a running TD.
Joaquin Bordi (22) had a busy evening with 10 carries and six tackles, topping both stat lines. Dax Vail (42), back in the line-up, had a strong showing with five tackles. Multiple Dons came away with four tackles: Kyle Sanftner (56), Matei Bolata (60), Sean Tandler (55), Brayden Hattersley (44) and Treysen Roberts (11).
We got the real treat of the 5th quarter for the first time this year. Top tackler was Colin Wilson (70) with three. Will Simas (80) had a tackle, and 20 yard reception from Nate Lederman (7). William Mrachek (29) had two successful carries, as did Corben Hanson (23). Play of the quarter was a 20 yard throw from quarterback Marcus Yakaitis (13) to receiver Chase Woehrle (8).
