A Successful Weekend for Women’s Water Polo!

This weekend the Lady Dons hosted the Clovis North Broncos and the Leland High School Chargers. First up, the Clovis North Broncos. Acalanes wasted no time getting started with a quick goal from junior Ella Del Rosario. Sophomore Finley Graff followed that up with her first goal of the game. The Broncos fought back and got themselves on the board before a great pass from junior Sara Williams to Finley Graff for a sweet goal. Clovis North was able to sink one more in the twine before the end of Q1 with the Dons leading 3-2.

Quarter 2 started off strong when Finley Graff shot from the top to give the Lady Dons one more tally mark. A great pass from Ella Del Rosario to junior Olivia Whipple who dented the twine to give the Dons a 5-2 lead. Freshman Malin Stone stole the ball and shot, but the ball bounced off the cage and was swept up by Finley Graff who shot and the ball bounced off th Clovin North’s goalie’s head into the cage for one more for the Dons. The quarter ended with Acalanes leading 6-2.

Finley Graff started the quarter off with another goal. Ella Del Rosario added a few more for good measure. The Broncos were not leaving without a fight, they fought back and scored some strong goals. The highlight of quarter 4 was senior Ellie Budke who sent two gorgeous shots to the back of the net to end the game 12-6.

Acalanes vs. the Leland Chargers

At 1pm, the Lady Dons were back in the pool ready to take on the Leland Chargers. Freshman Malin Stone got the Dons on the board with a great goal to start the game. This was followed by Elle Del Rosario who stuck two in the twine. Leland charged back and scored a few themselves and were able to tie up the game.

Quarter 2 started with a great goal by senior Levand Koopah to help the Dons regain the lead. Leland continued to play strong and Freshman Lily Briones shot one into the twine to give. The half ended with Acalanes leading 6-5. Sophomore goalie, Adelyn Horciza was on fire with epic blocks and perfect passes throughout the first half.

Quarter 3 started with a goal from set by Finley Graff. Leland wasn’t letting down and scored another goal to bring the Chargers within a goal. It went on this way for the rest of the quarter and into the 4th. With one left, Ella Del Rosario earned a penalty shot and scored to take the lead. Leland had just over a minute to tie up the game. They attempted a play, but the refs called an offensive on Leland and the turnover gave the Lady Dons possession with less than a minute left in the game. Acalanes spread out in the pool to waste the last few seconds of the clock. Leland tried to get the ball back, but the Lady Dons held strong winning the game 9-8.
