JV Girls Water Polo Update – 5 Games in the last 4 Days! – 10/6/24

The JV Girls Water Polo team has been busy!  They played LLHS on Wednesday, 10/2 at Acalanes, and took care of business pretty efficiently, winning 8-3. Here are the highlights! 

Q1 – Jess wins the sprint (of course), Santana had a shot blocked, Jess with a steal, Lilah assist to Erin for the shot – blocked unfortunately!  Mave (our goalie) had an awesome block.  Sadie and Kylie had strong defense almost resulting in a steal.  Santana scored (1-0).  Kylie with a steal, Jess assist to Kylie for the score in the top right corner (2-0)! Erin to Santana to Jess and she scores (3-0)!  

Q2 – Jess wins the sprint (YES).  Santana’s 5-meter shot was blocked (NO), Audrey scores on the breakaway (4-0)! LL scores (4-1). Santana’s next shot goes high, LL shot goes wide, but their next breakaway resulted in a score (4-2). Emi had a shot that went wide, Mave had a great block, their next shot went off the post, and Santana ended the quarter with a goal (5-2)!

Q3 – Jess wins the sprint (she spoils us), Santana’s shot goes wide, LL makes a LONG shot (5-3).  Erin’s shot blocked, we steal, they steal, Mave with two monster blocked shots, LL misses another couple of shots, Jess with a steal, Cade with a blocked shot, quarter ends with a battle for the ball that Jess wins.  

Q4 – Jess wins the sprint (4 for 4 baby!), and Santana scores (6-3), but her next shot goes high. Jess with a steal, Lily with a couple of shots that are blocked and bounce off the post. Mave had a huge shot block on their power play, Santana assist to Jess, Jess scores (7-3)!  Audrey and Kelsey work together to pull off a steal, Mave blocks a shot on the breakaway, their next shot goes wide, and Lilah scores (8-3)! Their goalie shot wide, Lilah with another shot off the post, and the game ends with Lilah getting her own rebound, passing to Ella, whose shot was short.  

Final 8-3.  

 

On Friday 10/4 and Saturday 10/5, the girls left school early to participate in the Las Lomas Invitational. They were placed in the most competitive bracket – a compliment! – but not expected to win many games.  The girls played Las Lomas to start and took that game 9-5. Jess won the sprint to start, Erin had five shots total, one goal. Santana had a steal and two goal attempts. Emi had an assist, Kylie scored a goal and Lily had a steal. In Q2, Lily had another steal, Sadie had an assist, Jess had a shot, Santana had a steal, Kylie took a 5-meter, Lilah had a steal and an attempt and Erin scored two goals, attempted two more and blocked a shot. In Q3, Emi had a shot, Kylie had a shot, Erin also attempted a shot, as did Audrey. Emi scored a goal, Erin tried again, Kylie had a steal, Jess had a shot, Lilah too. Mave saved a goal, Lily with the assist to Santana for a goal. Lily with the steal, Cade with the assist to Lily for another goal! In Q4, Audrey wins the sprint, Sadie with an attempt.  Leah with a steal and Mave with a goal save. Audrey assist to Sadie for a goal! Cade with an attempt. Emi assist to Santana for a goal! Mave saves another goal to end the game!  

The girls played an hour later against a fresh Campo team (scheduling??) and lost 4-12. Jess won the first sprint, Santana took a shot as did Jess. Emi had a steal. In Q2, Mave had some good goal saves, Cade had two steals and one goal!  Jess, Santana and Emi had attempts, with Santana eventually scoring! In Q3, Kylie had a goal, Santana had a steal and an assist, and Jess took a 5-meter. In Q4, Mave saved a goal, Kelsey scored a goal assisted by Santana and Cade had a couple good steals.  Good fight girls!  

On Saturday morning (10/5), the girls played the extremely strong Carondelet Frosh team (which is better than their JV team, whom we have beaten). This team has beaten almost every opponent by 20+ goals all season, and our Dons held them to a 3-15 final score!  Emi had a steal and Erin had an attempt in Q1, while Mave saved two goals for the Dons. In Q2, Emi had two blocks and an attempt, Jess took a shot, Lily had an assist and a steal, and Santana scored a goal! In Q3, Jess won the sprint, Erin had a couple of attempts Kylie had a couple steals, Santana took a shot, and Emi scored a goal. In Q4, Kylie took a shot and a 5-meter, Sadie had a steal, Audrey took a shot, Lily had a steal and an attempt.  Jess assist to Santana for a goal! Kelsey with a steal, Cade with an attempt. Mave with a save to end it!  

The second game of the day, 4th of the tournament, was against Miramonte for 3rd place.  Jess won the sprint in Q1, Santana and Kylie took shots, Emi with a steal and Sadie with a goal! Mave had a save and an attempt to close out Q1. In Q2, Santana and Sadie attempted as did Erin twice. Cade had a steal and Mave had two saves! Q3 saw a lot of goalie saves, Sadie with a steal and Kylie with a block. Q4 saw Lilah, Santana and Cade attempt, two goalie saves, and a 5-meter miss.  Tough loss, 11-1 final score.  Dons finish 4th overall! 

Next game is at home on Wednesday – a REMATCH vs Miramonte at 7pm.  GO DONS!
