Girls Flag Football Scores 2nd Straight Two Win Evening

The Girls Flag Football team heated up the chilly Benicia stadium on Wednesday evening, defeating the Benicia Panthers 7-6 and then following up with a 19-7 victory over the Mt Diablo Devils for their second straight two-win night, moving to 1-0 in DAL divisional play with the win over Benicia.

It was interception mania for Acalanes, with the Dons recording 8 interceptions over the two games, 3 by Avery DeMent, 2 by Ruby Coy, and one each by Leila Hamidi, Lily Cervenka and Mira Clark.   The Dons made it hard on the opposing offenses all night, led by good tackle after good tackle by the stingy defense led by Avery DeMent and Leila Hamidi’s 8 tackles, June Natal’s 6 tackles, Ines Coyne’s 5  and Maya Shoenhair’s 4.  There were also great defended passes all night, including (at least) two each by Cervenka and Shoenhair.

The offense recorded 312 yards for the evening, with Hana Chelemedos passing for 234 yards, throwing four touchdowns on the night, including three short passes to Leslie Trowbridge and a 35 yard bomb to Maya Shoenhair.  Chelemedos also ran for two extra points. The receiving core was strong with Leslie Trowbridge recording 6 catches for 56 yards (3TDs), Maya Shoenhair snagging 4 catches for 68 yards, including her brilliant 35 yard catch and TD run and Avery Dement with 5 catches for 62 yards.

Next up: Home Double-Header Wednesday Oct 2, 5:30pm vs. Benicia and 8:00pm vs Campo.  Don’t miss it, this is an Acalanes 10 Must-Do Evening!
