A big third-inning rally led the Varsity Dons past Miramonte on a beautiful Senior Day celebrating the team’s seniors: Lulu Levy, Lana Cerejo and Nicole Parlett. The Dons defeated the Matadors 11-0 on Tuesday to improve their record to 14-5 with three more regular season games to go before NCS playoffs.
Cerejo started for Acalanes and pitched a stellar complete game shutout only needing 64 total pitches for the victory. Cerejo gave up three hits and zero runs, striking out 6 batters and ended the game with a perfect fastball on the outside corner to wrap up the game.
Levy was a big part of the 8 run third inning, when she singled to right to score 2 runs and later dashed home to score a run before Esa Orman hit a long 2-run home run to center field to bring the score to 11-0 after three innings. Levy had two hits on the day and made a nice running catch in left to end the fourth inning.
Parlett started at 1st base for the Dons and anchored one of the best days defensively all season as they made several difficult plays including 2 tough pops up behind first base. Avery Robb made a running catch on one and Parlett secured the other.
After Cerejo got out of an early first inning jam, the Dons got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Emme Young led things off with a walk, and then Robb tripled to left center. Orman then singled on a hard ground ball to left center to bring in Robb before Santana Tamayo doubled down the left field line to make it 3-0 after the first inning.
In the third inning, after Orman reached base on an error and Vanessa Choi came in to pinch run. Choi quickly stole second and advanced to third on a ground out. Maya Shoenhair laid down a bunt and Choi flew home for another run. After Cerejo reached base, Levy hit a line drive right down the right field line to score two more runs. Lauren Foster and Young followed with walks and Robb reached on an error to left to set up Orman for the blast over the center field fence.
A great day for our Seniors and the Dons look to keep the momentum going as they welcome Pinole Valley on Wednesday, May 1st at 4:30 for their final regular season home game.
