Record: 9-2
“Our best win of the season.” Stated Coach Thomas about his teams’ win against the Foothill Falcons. The victory was the first game in the JV Dougherty Valley Tournament. The Dons improved to 9-2 for the season.
This game featured two talented teams. The Falcons came into the game with a 10-1 record while Dons entered the game at 8-2. The players and coaches expected a tough, hard-fought game, and this game delivered.
The Dons jumped on the Falcons early. After the first quarter, the Dons lead 13-9. Yet, the Falcons soared back in the next two quarters. At halftime, Foothill had tied the game 24-24. By the end of the third quarter, the Falcons lead 42-35.
Leading by ten points, it looked like Foothill would advance in the tournament. But Coach Thomas and asked his team to battle back, and they did. The Dons overcame the deficit and won. The final score was Dons 51, Falcons 50.
The game did not have one Don stand out. Josh Elerts had 13 points and Lorenzo Cangini had 10 points. AJ Hastings added 9 points and his counterpart Arman Craig added 8 points. It was a complete team win.
Coach Thomas had this to say about the gutsy win: “I am really proud of the way the boys fought. Being down late in the game isn’t something we’re used to, and it would have been really easy to give up. But we never quit. By far, our best win of the season.”
The second game for the JV Dougherty Valley Tournament is scheduled for Friday, December 29 at noon. Go Dons!
