Record: 5-2
The Junior Varsity Basketball team defeated St. Joesph in the Hornet JV Tournament. The final score of the game was 65-51 in favor of the Dons. The win not only improved Acalanes to 5-2 on the year, but the Dons also captured third place in the Hornet tournament.
Going into the season, Coach Eric Thomas felt he had a talented, deep team. The depth of the JV team showcased itself against St. Joseph. Several starters including Illias Kaplanes-Jones, AJ Hastings, and Chase Bahou have suffered injuries. Yet, other Dons stepped up for an easy victory.
Gavin Beers erupted for 17 points. The young guard hit several three pointers from outside but also scored within the paint, shooting 80% on two-point shots. Lorenzo Cangini captured seven rebounds and contributed 11 points in the win.
Even with the victory, the JV team was disappointed with their performance. Spencer Clark, a reserve forward, had this to say about the game: “Unfortunately, we played down to their level. We played sloppy and need to clean up our turnovers.”
The JV Basketball team will continue their season this Tuesday, December 12, 2023. The Dons go on the road to face Las Lomas. Go Dons!
