The Dons headed to Orinda to take on the undefeated Miramonte Matadors on Friday night. Just when the Mats thought that the Dons were in reach…BOOM BOOM, out go the lights!
The Acalanes defense shut the door on another opponent to record the team’s 5th win in a row. The boys have outscored foes 251-20 with 3 shutouts over the past 5 games. They are flying to the ball and leaving a path of destruction every week.
The defensive line, led by Deonte Littlejohn, Brady Morrow, Dylan Murphy and Drew McKenzie are controlling the line of scrimmage and dominating the trenches.
Colin Malmquist led the team with 9 tackles and Drew McKenzie had a monster game with 8 tackles, including 2 for losses and one sack. Jack Giogianni, Gavin Bender, Brady Wall and Aidan Yates also added 5 tackles each to the Acalanes shutout.
Offensively QB Sully Bailey threw for 252 yards with 4 touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown in another strong game.
Trevor Rodgers put on an absolute show with 5 receptions for 133 yards and 3 touchdowns. Niko White continued his excellent play with 4 catches for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Dons jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in the 1st quarter, before extending the lead to 21-0 at halftime on 3 Bailey TD passes.
The boys continued to balance the run and pass in the 2nd half. Running Back Jack Miller ran for 71 yards on 8 carries. Wide Receivers Henry Souza had 2 catches for 35 yards and Mason Zirkel had 3 catches for 39 yards before both of them left the game early with injuries.
Jake Boselli had another solid all around performance with 2 tackles and 2 defended passes on defense before he took over at QB in the 4th quarter. Jake then went 2-2 for 73 yards and a TD pass. Oh yah, he also went 5-5 on extra points to improve his season total to 14-14 on PATs.
The offensive line was happy to welcome back Big Trevor Carrillo from his injury. He helped the offense dominate the line as well, with Henry Hagel, JD Orear and company leading the way.
At the same time that the Dons were throttling Miramonte, the Campo Cougars were losing to the Las Lomas Knights 45-42. That sets up a huge league showdown this Friday night in Walnut Creek when the boys take on the Knights. Both teams are 4-0 in league play.
Las Lomas has an impressive 7-0 record. It could be time for the boys in blue to take down another undefeated opponent. Grab your crew and come out to support the Dons this week!
With two league games remaining the time is clearly now. After a slow start the boys are on FIRE!
Let’s Go Dons! Why not us?!!!!
