Both Dublin and Acalanes took the field last Thursday with 5-0 records. One thing was certain…one team was going to walk away with their first loss of the season! Acalanes anticipated a tough game from this Dublin powerhouse.
Early in the first quarter Dublin took the lead 8-0 over Acalanes, but their lead didn’t last long. Acalanes quickly scored a touchdown (Finn Rivera) and a two point conversion (Jackson Boselli) to tie up the game 8-8 before the end of the first quarter.
Dublin scored another TD in the second quarter, but Andrew Iams had a huge tackle to prevent the conversion. Dublin led 14-8.
On it’s next possession, Winkles passed to Rivera for a touchdown and AJ Hastings for the conversion. Acalanes led 16-14. Dublin’s offense tried to come back, but they turned the ball over on downs!
The close score doesn’t truly show that the tables had turned at this point in the game. The Dons had a huge moment on 4th and 12. Winkles pass to Grant Condy for a 50 yard touchdown and the Dons increased their lead 22-14.
Again, Dublin had no chance against the Don’s defense when Jasper Stewart intercepted the ball on the Don’s 20 yard line! Bryce Mansour ran the ball for a touch down and the two point conversion. Acalanes led 30-14.
AJ Hastings and Drew Asidorian scored the next two touch downs for the Dons and the freshman team walked away with their 6th straight win of the season after beating Dublin 44-20!
Classy Don’s defense takes a knee and the game was called with a couple of minutes left on the clock.
