Men’s JV Soccer Gritty…..Gutty……Gratifying. The JV boys faced their toughest test of the season against the undefeated Las Lomas Knights walking away with a 0-0 draw on the road. The backline of Griffin Dubois, Faisal Nabulsi, Ryan Baity and Nick Mitroff were solid all game chasing down players and blocking shots. As good as the Dons defense played, the clear man of the match was goalkeeper Jackson Hink who made a total of 8 saves. The two teams played mostly even in the first half with Dylan Machado bringing his usual energy and aggressiveness. Alex Jeon and Jack Sutherland made the defense work on multiple occasions, but the Dons couldn’t quite get the space to put a hard shot on goal. Las Lomas had an opportunity to put a goal on the board midway through the first when they were awarded a PK in the box, but the Knights striker pushed his shot wide right and the match remained tied. In the 2nd half the Knights elevated their pressure, but the Dons defense and the stellar play of Jackson Hink in goal kept Las Lomas off the scoresheet. Meanwhile, on offense, Alex Jeon continued his stand out play attacking off of multiple counters. Acalanes had their best opportunity of the night midway through the 2nd half when a long clear by Griffin Dubois found a streaking Jeon on the right side. Alex gathered the ball, kept his composure and found a trailing Zack Roder at the top of the box, but a hustle play by a Knight defender prevented the shot. The remainder of the game the Dons, who played almost the entire match with the same 11 players, repelled attack after attack with a classic bend not break mentality. With the tie the Dons progress to 4-2-2. The rematch should be interesting as Acalanes expect to have their full team ready to go when the Knights come to Lafayette.
