Acalanes traveled to Clayton Valley to play the Ugly Eagles Monday evening. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a bit of an ugly game for the Dons, losing 52-33.
Clayton Valley jumped to a big early lead behind a full court press and good 3 point shooting. In the second quarter Coach Powers, who was subbing in for Coach Herley, switched to a zone defense, and was able to slow down Clayton Valley’s attack.
However, the Dons weren’t able to get their offense in gear until the 4th quarter, when they turned up their pressure defense and outscored the Ugly Eagles 17-8 behind a bunch of steals and some exciting finishes around the basket by Cooper Edelman and Liam Gallagher.
Cooper led the Dons with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Liam Gallagher and Jaden McClane chipped in with 7 points apiece, and Jaden pulled own 7 rebounds himself. Trevor Carillo grabbed 6 board and Quincy Patterson had 5 rebounds as well.
The Dons are now 3-2 in league play and travel to play Miramonte in an important game this afternoon.
