The Acalanes JV Boys took down Northgate 56-53 on Saturday, improving their league record to 2-0. Northgate brought a strong inside game, but the Dons responded with a physical defense, aggressive rebounding, and a strong offensive performance.
Acalanes was led by Trevor Carrillo, who displayed a strong combination of inside, mid-range, and outside shooting to lead the way with 17 points. His 8 rebounds also led the team. Cooper Edelman added 15 points, with Joe Reidenbach and Ian Salmon each adding 10 points.
Down 34-22 at halftime, Northgate came out strong at the beginning of the 3rd quarter to start chipping away at the deficit. But Carrillo found Edelman on a back door cut to the basket to stem the tide. A few possessions later, Carrillo hit a strong spinning layup with the defense hanging all over him and Dominic Sarica hit a three-pointer to give the Dons some breathing room.
But Northgate wasn’t done yet. They came out on fire in the 4th quarter, cutting the lead to 47-46. Acalanes showed their resilience again, with Edelman draining a 3 pointer then Carrillo finding Edelman again on a great backdoor pass & layup.
Next up, Acalanes takes on the Campolindo Cougars on Tuesday.
