The Lady Dons beat Eureka 51 to 37 in the 2nd round of the West Coast Jamboree. The girls trailed throughout much of the first half, as Eureka had 3 girls 6’0 plus. It took some time to adjust the size and physicality the opponent had. However, the Lady Dons relentless full court pressure began to take its toll in the 2nd quarter on Eureka with the Dons heading into halftime with a 30 to 21 lead. The girls then pushed the lead to 20 plus in the 3rd quarter behind very strong games from freshmen Sophie Chinn and Karyss Lacanlale. Both girls’ speed proved to be too much for Eureka. The Dons coasted in the 4th quarter and ended up with a respectable victory. Karyss Lacanlale was the point leader with 20, Sophie Chinn added 12 (and endless steals, rebounds and incredible defensive plays), Isabella Aris-Dumas had 8 and Jenna Steele scored 6.
The girls now advance to the Championship Game at 5:30pm at Granada High School versus the winner of Carlsbad/Piedmont.
