On Tuesday the Dons travelled to Napa to play a road game at Vintage. A vocal group of student fans made the trip as well to support the team which was great to see! The team was ready to get going after the JV team’s double overtime tilt and came out quick forcing a turnover and getting on the board with a Bloch 3 and Bayless hitting Nelson on a nice back cut. It was a competitive quarter overall and the Dons came away with a 13-10 lead behind 8 from Davis on 2 post-ups and a 3.
Noah started q2 with another 3 but the Crushers quickly struck back, keeping it a close game. Davis hit Bayless on a cut for and and 1 as the Dons continued to collect assists. Theo canned a 3 on a nice inside out pass but Vintage answered again. Theo remained active with a dime to Jack and then went coast to coast for 2. It remained a battle with the game tied at 26 at the half.
Davis opened the second half scoring with an and 1 and Theo followed with a putback on his own miss and then got a steal and dropped a sweet behind the back pass the a streaking Bloch for a layup. Bloch then hit 2 FT to extend the lead to 3 again. It turned into an incredibly physical and low scoring second half of the quarter with Theo burying a 3 late for a 1 point lead and the D shutting Vintage down on their final possession.
Noah opened the fourth with YET ANOTHER 3 and Theo hit a teardrop to push the scoring. Bayless hit a jumper to extend the lead finally to 5 but Vintage came back with a 3 to keep it close. It was a bit of a FT contest for a few minutes with both teams in the bonus and Vintage taking a 4 point lead with about 1 min to go. Noah calmly hit 2 FT to cut the lead in half. After a stop from the Dons and 2 missed Crusher FT Theo got into the lane for a turnaround with 12 seconds left to tie it at 58. Vintage was unable to score on the last possession and another game went to overtime tonight.
Overtime started on a down note as Davis had to leave with an injury in the opening possession and Vintage then pushed the lead to 4. Noah banged home a 3 to get the lead to 1 but that was as close as they could get, dropping their first game if the year 61-63. ESPN insiders report that Davis should be OK.
