The quarterfinals of Division 1 CIF for Girls Water Polo started yesterday with the Dons facing Dan Ramon Valley and the Dons came to play. On a chilly night at the Acalanes pool the home team struck first on a goal by Senior Heidi Heffelfinger, in what would become a familiar sight this night. SRV came right back with a score, but Heffelfinger and Sarah Potter both connected to end the first period 3-1 in favor of our Dons.
Not to be outdone by her sister, Sophomore Wendy Heffelfinger opened the second period with a goal, which was followed quickly by a goal by SRV. That was to be the last time SRV would find the net this night. Acalanes took over the game from that point forward with a tremendous showing of counter attack speed, shutdown defense and motion offense.
As the clock ran out the Dons has posted a solid 12-2 victory. As always, Audrey Cox was a stellar in goal blocking 8 of 10 shots. Heidi Heffelfinger lead the offense with 7 goals, 1 assist and was able to draw 4 exclusions. Sarah Potter added 2 goals and 2 assists with Sara Archer. Maizie O’Hare and Wendy Heffelfinger rounding out the scoring.
Come watch your Lady Dons play in their last home game of the year in the CIF Norcal Semi-Finals this Thursday 5pm at the Acalanes Pool.
