The Acalanes Freshmen Don’s Football Team kicked off their first game of the season on Saturday with a BIG WIN against Monte Vista!
The Don’s started out on Defense and showed that a week of tackling practice helps! The squad was wrapping up the opposing offense, and showed much better results – Joe Colachico and Everett Glass both had solid performances for the Defense, both were in on multiple tackles and Glass intercepting a pass and almost had another on a deep ball. Sully Bailey and Gavin Bender are a formidable force at the linebacker positions and Collin Malmquist and Jack Giorgianni messed things up for the opposing back field… each player caused and recovered fumbles during the game.
The offense was lead by Jake Boselli who is spread the ball around to multiple receivers, Henry Souza, Calvin Kortaba and Kieran Foster all made nice catches. Jack Miller and Sully Bailey carried the load most of the way from the Tailback position, and showed several times that they are capable of lowering their shoulders to get the extra yards! Offensive Coach, Buddy Rowell, has a lot of weapons on this team, and was able to mix up his play calling all day to keep the defense guessing.
The offensive line, lead by Center Henry Hagel, continues to dominate in the trenches, which allow time for the plays to develop… giving the quarterback time to see things down field – Head Coach Bill Hansen is doing a tremendous job keeping this team engaged and learning all aspects of the game from basic blocking and tackling to Special Teams – There is so much to cover and with the limitations on field time… its hard to get to everything – Great Job Coach!
The Dons beat Monte Vista, 20 to 14
