After new guidance from state and county health officials, many things have changed for high school sports. Seasons for many different sports were moved around, and baseball season has now been slotted for April 5th though May 29th.
Tryouts are not allowed before the season, so tryouts for all levels (Varsity, Junior Varsity and Freshman) will start on April 5th.
Complicating matters, athletes in the AUHSD are not allowed to participate in more than one sport at a time. Unless and until this changes, this means that athletes playing another sport, for instance football, may not tryout during the week of April 5th, since football doesn’t end until mid April. Any athletes who will be playing any another sport that is concurrent with baseball tryouts will either 1) tryout for baseball later, when their other sport concludes, or 2) quit their other sport and join baseball on April 5th (which requires athletic director permission).
EDIT: AS OF FEB 27 AUHSD IS NOW ALLOWING ATHLETES TO PARTICIPATE IN TWO SPORTS WITH PERMISSION OF THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR. SO, IF AN ATHLETE IS PLAYING ANOTHER SPORT, THEY CAN COME TO BASEBALL TRYOUTS WITH PERMISSION.
Any athletes that want to tryout for baseball after their other sport concludes will not be penalized in any way. Please just give Connor Hornsby a heads up that you will be trying out for baseball and the date that your other sport ends.
Please share this info with any other AHS athletes interested in trying out for baseball.
