A Knight to Remember! Girls Varsity Waterpolo Secure Their Spot in the DAL Finals!

The Dons get ready for the DAL Tournament

It’s been a good year for the Acalanes Dons! In regular season match ups they beat all three of their opponents; Las Lomas with a score of 13-4, Campo with a score of 9-6, and Miramonte by a score of 10-6. The DAL Tournament was added last year as a way to end the season, but is separate from the DAL League Champions. The Acalanes Dons are the 2026 Diablo Athletic League Champions!

Junior Lily Briones with an authoritative shot

On Thursday night, Acalanes hosted Las Lomas for the DAL Tournament Semifinals. The Dons took charge right away with two great goals from junior Lily Briones, two more from senior Finley Graff, and one from sophomore Elinor Chen to end Q1 with the Dons leading 5-0. Adelyn Horciza did a great job blocking the attempts by the Knights.

Sophomore Maddy Maurer with a strong shot from set

The Dons continued their reign in Q2 as Jayna Guiro won the sprint and junior Malin Stone scored two in a row. Great steals from Jayna Guiro and smart plays from sophmore Anika Rehn led to one more goal from Lily Briones to bring the score 8-0 at the half.

Junior Lucy McShane with a great save against Las Lomas

Quarter 3 started with Las Lomas taking the sprint, but the Knights were not able to convert. Lily Briones was back at it again with one more tally for the Dons. Junior Lucy McShane took over in goal and continued the strong defense. Sophmore Maddy Maurer had a grat shot from set and found the back of the net. Las Lomas kept fighting and scored one goal on a power play. The Dons answered with another set goal from Finley Graff to bring the score 11-1 at the end of the quarter.

Junior Emiko Kuniyoshi looking for a pass

The final quarter started with a strong sprint by Las Lomas but Lucy blocked their shot. On the next play, Maddy Maurer had another great goal from set followed by a smart ball under play! Junior Kylie Kaplan had a great field block to help Lucy out in goal and fellow junior Emiko Kuniyoshi launched a great high corner shot for lucky goal #13. The Dons took the 13-1 win to advance to the DAL Championship game on Saturday.
