Coco Gannon steals Candy from Baby during Frosh Game

Friday started out great! Miller Smith scored three 3 pointers in the first quarter giving the mojo to the Dons. Smith was the high scorer of the day with 19 points for Acalanes. Yet the Foothill Falcons did not care about that at all. No siree!

The Falcons wanted this win, as just a few weeks ago the Dons beat them. The Dons and the Falcons volleyed the score back and forth. The Dons finished in the lead at the end of the first quarter 13 to 12, followed by halftime 24 to 20…and that felt good! But not good enough.

Landon Best-Santos, Miller Smith, Coco Gannon, Justin Zegarowski, Jack Bayless, Kaleo Feinberg, Colin Norstad and Nathan Kim added to the Dons score board and also fought hard on defense.

Going into the 4th quarter, the Dons were still leading, 34 to 32. The Falcons started to turn up the heat on the Dons.

“It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.” said Babe Ruth. Babe is baseball, but that quote reflected the Dons in the fourth quarter. Coco Gannon twice in a row ‘stole candy from the baby’, by taking the ball quickly, aggressively with purpose away from the Falcons as they trotted over the center line. Gannon took that ball and made a beeline to the Don’s hoop for two layups. Folks! It was AWESOME! However, the Falcons found the strength from the corners to score more than the Dons. Ending in a lost, 40 to 46.

Losing is a necessary ingredient to ultimate success. There are growth opportunities in every situation. This is only the second lost for the Frosh team. The Frosh team will move on to Saturday to win the 3rd place spot of this Winter Tournament. And that is a fact!

The Frosh team is looking forward to 2020 and starting the new year with a few home games. Saturday, January 4 at 1pm against Silver Creek and Tuesday, January 7 at 4pm against Miramonte.
