The Dons headed to Moraga Friday night for their last regular season game undefeated in league. In the crosstown clash, Acalanes used a dominant middle-half defensive shutout to topple the Campolindo Cougars, 9-4.
While the Cougars struck first, the Dons’ response was immediate. Caleb Mason found the back of the net to level the score before Luke Dafferner erupted for two straight goals, giving Acalanes a 3-2 edge at the end of the first quarter.
The story of the game, however, was written on the defensive end. For two straight quarters, the Dons’ brickwall defense and strong midfield play—anchored by the speed and physical play of Cade Korpita, Corbin Gallegos, and Leo Deignan—along with great play in goal by Kyle Sanftner—completely neutralized the Campolindo attack.
A second-quarter goal from Jackson Tseng sent the Dons into the half with a 4-2 lead, but they blew the game open in the third. Grant Condy, Jan Korzeniowski, and Mason all tallied goals in a 3-0 run that pushed the lead to five, while the defense continued its scoreless streak.
Campolindo managed two goals in the final frame to stop the bleeding, but the comeback was short-lived. Late-game strikes from Tseng and Mason put the finishing touches on the win, securing bragging rights and a decisive 9-4 victory in the crosstown rivalry.
Onto the D-1 playoffs for the League champs 13-5 Dons.
Way to go boys. What a great season. Fear the blue!
