Your JV Dons ended their season with a tough loss to Northgate in three sets. The first set was close, but the Dons lost 20-25. Northgate and Acalanes were well matched and each point was a long rally. Maya ‘on fiya’ Paul was living up to her name, swinging for multiple kills. Precision serving by Rachel Zhang kept the Broncos on their toes as well.
In the second set, the Dons came back. Emma Johnson found herself in a ping pong match at the net and refused to give up the point. Hanna Hageboeck had a kill that knocked a Northgate defender flat. The Dons were on top of their defense and not letting much drop. Claudia Lindgren had multiple kills as well. The Dons were struggling with their serves a bit as girls were losing points to the net. That is, until Kira Wood came in to serve at 16-14. Wood absolutely saved the set with a 7 point run, including 4 aces. Wood was on fiya too! Acalanes rolled to victory 25-14.
The last set was a tie breaker to 15. There were many bright spots: Alara Rose went beast mode with a timely stuff to get things going. Then Rose and Tate Huisingh went up for the double power block – so pretty! Wood killed it again with more consistent serving. Natalie Marsh scored with a dump and then threw up a nice set for Gianna Manzone. Chloe Wu provided some great cover in the back row. But alas …it was not the Dons night.. They lose the tie breaker 15-17.
The JV Dons end the season with a 7-3 record in league play. It was such a pleasure to watch them all season. The girls fought hard, and Coach Alan was an inspirational leader. Heartfelt thanks to all! Varsity heading into post season play so let’s all get out there and support them. Go Dons!!!
