The boys lacrosse team faced off against San Ramon Valley, a perennial juggernaut, in what they knew would be a tough battle. But the plucky Dons got a quick jump on the game thanks to Grant Condy who scored a beautiful goal in the first 90 seconds of the game only to do the same one minute later, with the Dons leading 2-0. The wolves responded with a goal of their own but Condy would have none of it and answered with a third goal, a hat trick completed in the first 6 mins of the game. Way to go, Grant. This first part of the game was also accompanied by very strong faceoff play by Mason Lanphere.
But SRV started to gain momentum fast, overcoming the Dons with 3 goals in quick succession. The Dons responded with a great goal from Jan Korzeniowski assisted by Caleb Mason. The Wolves got quick revenge and scored two to bring the score at the end of the quarter to 5-4 SRV.
The second quarter continued in much the same way, with feisty play by both teams and lots of back and forth. At the half, SRV still had a one goal lead 6-5.
Despite a competitive first half, the second half SRV took over and put the Dons’ defense in overdrive. Outstanding defensive efforts from Grady Branagh, David Gallagher, Cade Korpita and Corbin Gallegos but SRV offense was unrelenting with fast ball movement and crisp passing—scoring 3 more goals in the third quarter. The Dons stayed in the battle with another beautiful assist by Caleb Mason to Luke Dafferner for their last goal of the game. The remainder of the game saw too much SRV offense for the Dons to handle.
