The Acalanes JV boys traveled to the historic Presidio in San Francisco for a match that offered a stunning Golden Gate Bridge backdrop but a rocky start on the pitch. In a game defined by a frantic opening and a relentless comeback effort, the Dons ultimately fell 1-2 to a resilient University High.
The match began under unusual circumstances, with both Acalanes goalkeepers caught in the notorious San Francisco traffic, University capitalized on the early personnel gap, going up 2 goals in the first 15 minutes. Once the full roster was accounted for and the Dons settled into their rhythm, the narrative of the game shifted entirely. Acalanes took command of the tempo, pinning University back into their own half with a sophisticated offensive press. The breakthrough finally came when Coen, on a breakaway toward what looked like a certain goal, was brought down by a hard foul in the box. Luca Ginnocio stepped up to the spot for the resulting penalty kick, coolly slotting it home to bring the Dons within one. Despite turning up the offensive fire for the remainder of the game, the Dons couldn’t come up with the equalizer.
